Safety & Handling Protocols
Peptides are fragile biological compounds. Improper handling, storage, or reconstitution can render them inactive or, worse, lead to contamination.
1. Proper Storage
Lyophilized (Powder): Keep in a cool, dark place. For long-term storage (over 3 months), a freezer at -18°C up to -20°C is recommended. Short-term storage can be in a refrigerator at 2-8°C.
Reconstituted (Liquid): Once mixed, peptides are highly unstable. They MUST be refrigerated and used within their stability window (typically 3-4 weeks for most compounds).
2. Sterile Reconstitution
Always use Bacteriostatic Water (water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol) to prevent bacterial growth. Sterile water is only suitable for single-use vials.
- Sanitize vial stoppers with 70% Isopropyl alcohol before every entry.
- Use a sterile syringe to inject water slowly down the side of the vial.
- Allow the powder to dissolve naturally; do not force it.
The “Cold Chain”
Importance
Peptides are heat-sensitive. Most vendors ship with ice packs, but the real clock starts when you receive them. Understanding the degradation curve is vital for research efficacy.
