Short-acting prandial GLP-1 agonist; sold as Adlyxin/Lyxumia by Sanofi.
Scientific Overview
Lixisenatide is an exendin-4 analog with a six-lysine C-terminal extension. Approved in the EU (2013, Lyxumia) and US (2016, Adlyxin) by Sanofi. Short half-life (~3h) makes it more effective for postprandial glucose than fasting glucose. ELIXA trial showed CV neutrality. Discontinued in the US in 2023 due to low uptake.
