Indolicidin
Tryptophan-rich bovine cathelicidin; broad-spectrum antimicrobial peptide.
Scientific Overview
Indolicidin is a 13-aa tryptophan-rich cathelicidin originally isolated from bovine neutrophils (Selsted et al., 1992). It displays broad-spectrum activity against bacteria, fungi, and HIV in vitro via membrane permeabilization and intracellular targets. Hemolytic toxicity has limited systemic development; analogs (e.g. omiganan) reached topical Phase 3 trials.
