Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase
NNMT (nicotinamide N-methyltransferase) is an enzyme that methylates nicotinamide using S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) as the methyl donor, producing 1-methylnicotinamide (1-MNA). The reaction sits at the intersection of NAD+ metabolism, methyl-donor pools, and one-carbon metabolism.
Elevated NNMT activity in adipose tissue has been linked to obesity and insulin resistance, because the enzyme depletes both nicotinamide (a NAD+ precursor) and SAM (the universal methyl donor). NNMT inhibition is therefore an emerging target for metabolic and longevity research.
5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule NNMT inhibitor under research for body-composition and metabolic effects. It is technically a small molecule rather than a peptide, but it is commonly grouped with the peptide-research compound set in vendor catalogs.
